SC (WMBF) - Average gas prices in South Carolina have dropped 14 cents since last year.
According to the American Automobile Association (AAA), the average price for gas in the Palmetto state, is $2.97 per gallon; that is 48 cents cheaper than it was on Memorial Day. This decreasing pattern is expected to continue.
"It's great to see motorists in the Carolina's drive away from the gas pump with more money in their wallets," said David E. Parsons, president and CEO of AAA Carolina's. AAA suggests that prices have decreased because people travel less in the winter months,
Averaging at $2.92, The Greenville-Spartanburg area holds the lowest prices for gas. Charleston has the highest prices at $3.02. South Carolina, along with Oklahoma, Tennessee, Minnesota, Missouri and Mississippi are the only states to average below $3 for a gallon of gas. North Carolina's prices are expected to decline by Thanksgiving.
