Myrtle Beach attorney accused of spending money awarded to young clients

WAKE COUNTY, NC (WMBF) - A Myrtle Beach attorney misappropriated more than $150,000 in money, according to the NC Bar.

William Isaac Diggs is accused of using money he was entrusted with, intended for minors he represented in court to pay for overhead expenses at his law office, according to a preliminary injunction.

The document was filed Thursday, October 9 and temporarily restrains Diggs from practicing law in North Carolina.

Diggs represented a wrongful death claimant in August 2009, according to the order.

More than $100,000 was entrusted to Diggs to hold for the decedent's two children. "Diggs indicates he held $56,670.11 for each child (totaling $113,340.22)," according to the document.

In 2011, Diggs represented a minor involved in an auto accident. "Diggs indicates he held $50,871.00 in a trust for this minor," the document states.

The NC Bar requested "prompt action" to ensure no other entrusted funds are mishandled or misappropriated.

According to the court, the cases happened in South Carolina.
