Surfside Beach Fire Department awarded ISO Class 1 rating

SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (NEWS RELEASE) - The Surfside Beach Fire Department has been awarded with an ISO Class 1 rating, according to Chief Anthony Fox.

The department sent the following information in a press release:

Mr. Michael Marash, Manager for Community Hazard Mitigation, today visited the Town of Surfside Beach's Fire Department to award them with an ISO, Class 1, rating. The Public Protection Classification survey was conducted over 2 months ago by ISO but the results were not released until their arrival at 3:30 PM.

ISO's Public Protection Classification Program (PPC) plays an important role in the underwriting process at insurance companies. Almost all U.S. insurers use PPC as information as part of their decision making when deciding which businesses to write, what coverage to offer and what prices to charge for personal and commercial property insurance. Effective January 1, 2015 this new rating score should help residents and businesses within the town limits of Surfside Beach achieve lower insurance costs. Nationwide there are only 84 departments that have received a rating of ISO Class 1 with Surfside Beach Fire Department being one of them.

Retiring Fire Chief Dan Cimini stated, "The entire department has been working diligently for the last 2 years to prepare for this inspection. I am astonished. I was hoping for a 2 and with the help of our firefighters and the funding from our town council we received a Class 1 rating. We should all be proud."
