It might not be as popular as the announcement of an important new road project, a big name restaurant coming to town, a new hotel condo project, or new shopping complex, but the outfall projects under construction in Myrtle Beach and North Myrtle Beach are very important for the area.
These outfall projects improve the quality of the water near the shore by moving storm water run-off further out into the ocean. A beach that is closed for high bacteria count or other storm water run-off issues is not good publicity and is not healthy.
Although it's a significant investment to make these upgrades, it's also an important investment for a tourism driven area. Hopefully funding will continue to be available in the future so that all of the shore based runoff can eventually be redirected safely off shore.
