SCDMV receive reports of fraudulent telephone calls

(WMBF) - The South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles has received reports of fraudulent telephone calls.

Individuals claiming to work for the department have called citizens to inform them that in the state of South Carolina, it is required to purchase an extended warranty on their vehicle, which is incorrect.

The SCDMV does not initiate calls regarding vehicle warranties. "These calls are clearly people trying to scam South Carolina citizens," said DMV Executive Director, Kevin Shwedo. "We were notified about this incident by a customer and we urge anyone who receives a call like this to contact us," Shwedo said.
