Darlington officials take civil action to shut down Foxy Video

DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Darlington County officials have filed an affidavit for seizure of Foxy Video.

The civil action comes six days after the video store was busted by the sheriff's office for prostitution and drugs.

Owner and operator Victor Balin was charged with multiple crimes, including: operation of brothel, possession with intent to distribute bath salts, possession with intent to distribute bath salts within the proximity of a school, unlawful possession of an illegal gambling device, and drug paraphernalia.

"Anytime you have an illegal operation going on, a business that brings criminal elements into a neighborhood and community, you're going to have criminals," Sheriff Wayne Byrd said. "It's not the sort of business anyone wants in their neighborhood or community. It's not the kind of place that needs to be in operation in Darlington County."

Currently, Foxy Video is closed due to fire violations, according to Byrd. Following the raid, the fire inspector came in and closed its doors. Balin has 15 days to make repairs to meet the fire code.

The court process will involve a judge and jury. Sheriff Byrd expects it to take at least a year.
