Breast cancer awareness walk to be held in Georgetown

GEORGETOWN, SC (NEWS RELEASE) - A walk to raise awareness for breast cancer is being held in Georgetown on the morning of Saturday, October 4. The walk will be a time of remembrance and celebration at Georgetown Hospital System Foundation's annual "In the Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness Walk.

Events get underway at 8:30 a.m. at the Imaging Center at Waccamaw Medical Park, with the walk beginning at 10 a.m. and concluding at 11 a.m.

Online registration will continue until noon on Oct. 3. The registration form can be downloaded by going to www.georgetownhospitalsystem.org/breastcancerwalk. Participants also can register beginning at 8:30 a.m. on the day of the event. For more details, call 843.652.8080.

In addition to the two-mile walk, which winds through the Marsh Walk along Murrells Inlet, the morning's activities will feature a vendor expo, pink bake sale, musical entertainment and complimentary Shutterbooth photos.

Special highlights include the Survivor Celebration and Pam's Garden.

Pam's Garden honors the memory of Pam Sloan, who started the "In the Pink" walk but lost her battle to breast cancer. Pink cardboard flowers will be available for $20 before the event and the day of the walk. Participants can decorate them beforehand in honor of or in memory of loved ones and put them in Pam's Garden, which will be near the Imaging Center.

Proceeds from "In the Pink" will benefit the Georgetown Hospital System's Indigent Breast Cancer Fund.
