Fire departments raise awareness for Breast Cancer Awareness month

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Rhonda Brown, a secretary for the Myrtle Beach Fire Department, died in March 2012 after battling breast cancer for over a decade.

Brown passed away while the fire department was setting up a fundraiser in her name.

The fire department hosted a Rhonda Brown memorial golf tournament on August 17, 2014. The event is held every year and all proceeds go to the American Cancer Society.

In 2013, the fire department donated $6,500 to the American Cancer Society.

Pink t-shirts can be bought for $20 at 921B Oak Street in the MBFR administration office.

The Horry County Fire Department is also raising breast cancer awareness by wearing pink helmets all October long.
