Santee Cooper plant worker transported to burn center after electrical box explodes

GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - An employee at a Georgetown County plant has been flown to a burn center in Augusta after an electrical box unit exploded and burned his face and right hand.

Georgetown County Fire Department responded to the call at the Winyah Generating Station around 1:25 p.m., according to Assistant Chief Tony Hucks with the Georgetown County Fire. The plant is located on Pennyroyal Road and owned by Santee Cooper. It generates electricity.

The victim was transported out of the plant by emergency medical responders, according to Mollie Gore, spokeswoman for Santee Cooper. He suffered second and third degree burns.

Incident is under investigation.
