TIMMONSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - Timmonsville police officers have captured the fifth suspect in connection with an armed robbery.
Four suspects allegedly robbed Jays Food Mart & Meat Market and beat the owner.
Timmonsville High School's quarterback, Shykell Jackson, 17, was charged with armed robbery and assault and battery by a mob in connection to the incident.
The suspects, one of whom pointed and presented a firearm, allegedly entered the business, physically assaulted the store employee and stole merchandise prior to fleeing the scene on foot, according to the Florence County Sheriff's Office.
Owner Daya Daru told WMBF News he was filling the water cooler when the suspects walked into his market. He said of the four men, one had his face covered, and before he realized what happened, the men began to beat him.
"One started hitting me, and two to three people came to me and started hitting me like it wasn't anything," Daru said.
Eyewitnesses called Timmonsville Police Department. Through the eyewitness accounts, police were able to locate the suspects.
"I got a call from several of the local business owners that they had just witnessed an armed robbery," Chief Gregory Palmer told WMBF News. "We went to that residence; there was a total of five people in the house."
The house is located on West Market Street, just one block from where the alleged armed robbery took place.
Palmer says all five of the people were detained so investigators can figure out which four committed the crime.
"From the description from the subjects, we detained the person that actually had the weapon - ran from the house," Palmer confirmed.
Meanwhile, one of the five suspects escaped. After leading officials on a foot chase through the woods, the suspect was captured and charged with armed robbery.
Two juvenile suspects were taken into custody following the incident and have been transported to the SC Department of Juvenile Justice.
The other two suspects have been released due to lack of resources. The incident is under investigation by the Florence County Sheriff's Office.
