MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Now that tourist season is slowing down it may be the perfect time to finally head out for dinner without fighting the crowds.
If you take a drive down Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach, you may want to stop for food, but before you do, WMBF News took a dig into recent inspection reports and there are some things you definitely want to hear.
Starting with what DHEC found in the hibachi and sushi bar, Okino: roaches, reportedly in various locations. One of those places, according to DHEC, was right in the food. DHEC inspectors noted in the report, this was corrected during inspection; the roaches found on the cook line were not.
Those are two of seventeen issues noted in the report. Another was for water dripping on foods in the walk in cooler.
If you head to the restaurant, you'll notice a "C" on its door. That's a 77 out of 100 score.
Okino can expect another drop in from DHEC. WMBF News stopped by, but no one was available for comment.
One spot people did want to talk about was Fiesta Mexicana.
"It's very clean, the people are friendly and it's very good," said Timmy Campbell, owner of 69th Ave. Liquor, Wine and Spirits.
Timmy Campbell works at the liquor store down the street; he's a frequent customer of the Mexican Restaurant. He says the food is worth the trip, and he's not the only one.
"I love the buffet, the lunch buffet and definitely the margaritas, the margaritas are great, I love those the most," said customer Shelley Herring.
Shelley wasn't surprised the Mexican restaurant got a score of 98, she says the restaurant is well kept. Her friend Renee has never been there, but works at the gas station next door. She says, Fiesta Mexicana is always a hot spot.
