MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Another Kmart is closing in our area: the store on North Kings Highway in Myrtle Beach.
Store representatives confirmed that it will shut down sometime in early December. The store will remain open to customers until it closes.
A liquidation sale starts this Sunday. Right now, it has 59 employees who will receive a severance, if eligible, and have the chance to apply for open positions at other Kmart or Sears stores. Most associates are part-time and hourly employees.
"Store closures are part of a series of actions we're taking to reduce on-going expenses, adjust our asset base, and accelerate the transformation of our business model," stated Howard Fiefs, the Director of Corporate Communications for Sears Holdings. "These actions will better enable us to focus our investments on serving our customers and members through integrated retail – at the store, online and in the home."
This past spring, the Inlet Square Mall Kmart closed. At this time, company representatives say there are no plans to close the Conway or Florence locations.
