LITTLE RIVER, S.C. (AP) - The Little River Chamber of Commerce has banned animals from vendor booths at its festivals.
Chamber executive Jennifer Walters told local reporters the decision will keep patrons, owners and animals safe. Walters said the festival had blocked people from bringing animals to events in recent years.
She says the chamber has now decided to ban vendors from bringing animals to the events it sponsors, like the Blue Crab Festival. Walters says that will help keep the animals safe from growing crowds.
The chamber sponsors the Shrimp Festival on Oct. 11-12, the first even where the ban on animals in vendor booths will take effect. Organizers expect up to 150 vendors for the festival.
Service animals are allowed for individuals with disabilities under federal law.
