Three arrested for stealing dirt bikes in Hartsville

HARTSVILLE, SC (WMBF) - Three people are facing multiple charges for stealing dirt bikes in Hartsville Friday night, according to the Darlington County Sheriff's Office.

Officers responded to a call on Lyndale Drive and spotted Cody Scott Kelley, 21, of Hartsville, trying to move a dirt bike from a wooded area near the initial call.

Kelley ran from the deputy and a short man hunt was conducted in the area of Highway 151 between Carolina Avenue and Kelleytown Road, according to the DCSO.

With the help of Hartsville Police Department and a local resident, Kelley was captured. Two of the dirt bikes have been recovered.

Brian Jesse Smith and Hali Briana Bess were also involved. Smith's bond was set at $90,000 and he is still in custody. Bess' bond was set at $20,000. She is out on her bond, according to the DCSO.

Kelley has been charged with two counts of burglary, grand larceny over $10,000, and malicious injury to real property, according to the DCSO. His bond was denied.

Criminal investigation is ongoing and additional charges are pending.
