SC Tobacco Festival kicks off in Lake City

LAKE CITY, SC (WMBF) - The 2014 SC Tobacco Festival has kicked off in Lake City and will last through Sunday.

The Lake City Farmers Market held an opening ceremonies with watermelon carving and watermelon seed spitting contests and bluegrass music.

Live bands are scheduled to play on Friday and Saturday nights.

"They'll have a nice band out there. It's a young band so it's geared toward a younger set, but they'll be something for everyone this weekend," said Mayor Lovith Anderson.

Festivities can be found at Village Green at 133 E. Main Street in Lake City.

A barbeque cookoff, car show, 5K race and food and crafts vendors is slated for Saturday.

Followed by the SC Tobacco Festival Golf Tournament at the Lake City Country Club at 1 p.m. Sunday.
