HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The deadline for the public to voice concerns on state academic standards for students has arrived.
September 30 is the final day. The South Carolina Education Oversight Committee will use the feedback to help implement new standards for the 2015-2016 academic year.
According to the EOC, there have been 6,134 comments on the English Language Arts standards and 2,582 comments on Math. Those comments will not be released, but a company will conduct a broad analysis. The results will be given to a panel on September 30, and used for possible changes in the future. Changes could also be made upon the arrival of the new superintendent.
The SC General Assembly passed the Act 200, which requires a cyclical review of the current academic standards in English Language Arts and Mathematics before January 1, 2015.
