HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The cities of North Myrtle Beach and Myrtle Beach are among three cities that will receive funding from The S.C. Department of Health and Environmental Control.
S.C. DHEC is providing grants that will help improve public access to coastal areas. The grants are given through a state budget proviso and each city is required to provide matching funding for each project.
North Myrtle Beach will construct handicap accessible boardwalk/dune walkover structures, restroom facilities and boardwalk/emergency vehicle ramps. The city will apply some of these changes to 53rd Avenue North, 4th Avenue North, 2nd Avenue South, 45th Avenue South and 14th Avenue South. The project will use $109,500 in state funds and $125,500 in local match for a project total of $235,000.
North Myrtle Beach is not the only city that will be revamped, Myrtle Beach will replace dune walkover structures on 39th Avenue North, 29th Avenue North and 27th Avenue South. This project will utilize $89,890 in state funds and $89,890 in local match for a project total of $179,780.
