HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A 34-year-old Longs man was arrested and charged in connection with the deadly hit-and-run accident on Sunday, September 14.

Tyrese Blathers has been charged with hit and run involving death, and was booked into the J. Reuben Long Detention Center on Tuesday morning.

Sometime after 8 p.m. on Sunday, September 14, a vehicle struck a moped traveling on Highway 90, about one mile north of Nixon's Crossroads, causing the moped rider to be killed, according to the South Carolina Highway Patrol.

Horry County Coroner Tony Hendrick said that the victim is 47-year-old Carl Davis Simpson, from Little River. An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

Hendrick believes the victim was hit on his moped Sunday night before midnight, but wasn't found until after daylight Monday.

As of Tuesday afternoon, Blathers remains incarcerated at J. Reuben Long Detention Center, and bond has not been set.
