CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – The Coastal Carolina University's first home football game of the season against South Carolina State on Saturday is officially sold out!
Over 10,000 tickets were sold, and CCU's Mike Cawood said it seems like there's more excitement around this year's team.
Last year, the season-opener was the only game to sell out, and Cawood said family weekend contributes to the sellouts.
That appears to be the case this weekend. CCU fans have waited three weeks to see the Chants play at home.
The long wait has helped create a new buzz and anticipation for the young season. CCU's athletic office told WMBF News that this sellout is unique because fans bought all of the tickets well before game day.
In fact, the school said as of Tuesday there were only standing room only tickets left and fans bought all of those.
"What people are mainly talking about seeing their family members because a lot of students are from out of state and so they are excited about seeing family," said CCU student Darrius McClain. "Everyone is ready for this game!"
Local bars and restaurants near CCU's campus also want to cash in on a crowded weekend.
"A lot of people and a lot of families are down so we are expecting a big crowd with a big turnout," said Joe's Fresh Burgers bartender Hope Maddox.
