LAMAR, SC (WMBF) – A property caretaker sustained severe burns after a fire broke out at a storage building in Lamar early Friday morning, officials confirmed.
A Lamar Police officer on patrol noticed smoke coming from a building off of Railroad Avenue at about 1:30 a.m. Friday, and assisted in getting the property's caretaker out of there. According to a Lamar Police official, the caretaker sustained burns to about 40 percent of his body, and was taken to the Augusta Burn Center.
Lamar Police and Darlington County firefighters responded to the building.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, the official stated.
