SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The Surfside Beach Fire Department hired a new Chief following the retirement of Chief Dan Cimini.

Anthony Fox will start with the department, tentatively September 26, Surfside Beach Town Manager Micki Fellner said.

Cimini has served Surfside Beach for two years, after retiring from the Myrtle Beach Fire Department. Overall, Cimini spent nearly 53 years fighting fires.

"I'm excited Tony will be our replacement," Cimini said. "He's young, aggressive, has experience as a trooper - that makes for a good command officer."

Fox has a background in police and fire, as a state trooper and battalion chief for the West Florence Fire Department.

"[Tony] is a decorated state trooper, but his love is the fire department," Cimini said.

The decision to hire Fox came Tuesday evening at an executive session in Surfside Beach.

Cimini's last day is October 9, to help the transition go over smoothly as Fox takes on the new role.

"I believe Tony will raise the bar even higher than I did for the department," said Cimini. "He comes to Surfside Beach with a lot of vigor to succeed."
