GEORGETOWN, SC (WMBF) - A body was found at Browns Ferry boat landing in Georgetown County on Thursday afternoon, according to the Coroner Kenny Johnson.
The body was identified by Coroner Johnson as 58-year-old Leland Victor Leith.
The remains were located in a wooded area nearby and found at around 2:45 p.m., according to Georgetown County spokeswoman Carrie Cuthbertson.
Cuthbertson says people found the body, but by the time she got to the scene, those people had left.
The coroner tells WMBF News the body has advanced decomposition, but the remains are not skeletal.
SCDNR agents turned the investigation over to officials with the Georgetown County Sheriff's Office.
The Georgetown County Sheriff's Office was on scene for over three hours along with Emergency Services.
The case is still under investigation, and an autopsy will be performed Friday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
