MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – National exposure is putting Grand Strand golf in the spotlight. After a soggy spring, experts hope this fall season will be on the upswing.
The season premiere of Big Break Myrtle Beach will air Tuesday at 9 p.m. on the Golf Channel.
"We lost quite a few rounds during that first quarter because of the weather," said Bill Golden of Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday.
While the golf industry is at the mercy of Mother Nature, Golden and his crew are confident in strengthening the golf season, especially for the fall.
"It's the best time of year from a weather standpoint, the courses are in great shape, the humidity comes down, you can still enjoy the beach," explained Golden.
Recently, the World Am wrapped up and continues to grow with international visitors. Golden hopes to continue that trend with additional exposure from The Big Break on the Golf Channel. This year Myrtle Beach will be in the show's spotlight.
"We'll have 11 original episodes that will re-air over and over, 100 hours of television here and overseas, but ultimately what it does is gives you a way to showcase the destination outside of a commercial because it is real," said Golden.
The timing of the TV show is perfect. As Golden pointed out, it will air around the time golf groups get together to plan their spring trips. He hopes Myrtle Beach will be their first pick.
However, Myrtle Beach Golf Holiday isn't only banking on the national exposure from TV. Currently plans are underway for a fall golf tournament to pull even more golfers here this season.
New episodes of The Big Break air each Tuesday at 9 p.m.
