Horry County director of public safety steps down

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - The Horry County Director of Public Safety has stepped down.

Paul Whitten resigned Monday, September 8, Horry County spokeswoman Lisa Bourcier confirmed.

No explanation for Whitten's resignation has been made available, currently.

Whitten worked for Horry County for nearly 17 years. His ending title was Assistant County Administrator of Public Safety and ending salary was $134,143.

No immediate action will be made to appoint an interim public safety director or advertise for the position, Bourcier said.
