Gamecocks win; Tigers, Chants follow suit

COASTAL CAROLINA: The Chants came back from a late deficit against North Carolina A&T, holding on for a 31-30 victory. The Aggies took the lead late in the fourth quarter and failed to convert a two-point attempt. On the ensuing kickoff, Charleston native Devin Brown took it 99 yards back the other way for a touchdown, setting a CCU kickoff return record in the process.

QB Alex Ross went 21-37 for 261 yards, a touchdown and three interceptions. Deangelo Henderson ran for 131 yards and a score.

SOUTH CAROLINA: The Gamecocks got in the win column for the first time this year as USC won 33-23 over East Carolina at Williams-Brice Stadium. The Pirates jumped out to a 6-0 lead, but Mike Davis helped carry the offense to a lead, and never trailed in the second half.

Davis ran for 101 yards and two scores, while Dylan Thompson threw for 266 yards, a touchdown and an interception.

CLEMSON: The Tigers also secured their first win of the season with a 73-7 home opening victory over South Carolina State. The scoring began less than three minutes into the game with an Adam Humphries two yard run, and the Tigers defense never surrendered a score all game. The Bulldogs scored on a 35 yard fumble return in the closing minutes.

Cole Stoudt threw for 302 yards and a touchdown, but freshman Deshaun Watson also tossed for three scores. 12 different Tigers caught a pass, and three scored. The Tigers head into an off week before traveling to defending champion Florida State on September 20th.

NOTRE DAME: Myrtle Beach native Everett Golson led the Irish to a 31-0 victory over Michigan under the lights on Saturday night. He helped provide the first shutout in the rivalry's history. Golson went 23-34 for 226 yards and three touchdowns. The Irish play another primetime game next week against Purdue at Indianapolis. That game can be seen on WMBF News on Saturday night at 7:30
