NC man accused of using fake account to buy car

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, N.C. (AP) - Authorities in Rowan County are accusing a man of using a fraudulent business account to buy a car from a Salisbury dealership and make a donation in honor of a murder victim.

Area media outlets report the Rowan County Sheriff's Office said Wednesday that 21-year-old Brandon Wright Acker of Lexington is charged with felony worthless check and obtaining property by false pretenses.

According to the sheriff's office, a local car dealer reported that a man used a counterfeit business check to buy a $35,000 vehicle. Investigators said the man also made a substantial contribution to a charity in honor of a murder victim, also on a fraudulent account.

Acker is being held in the Rowan County jail under $10,000 bond. Jail records don't indicate whether he has an attorney.
