MYRTLE BEACH,SC (WMBF) - Three Myrtle Beach firefighters and an engineer have been presented with the Lifesaving award.

Engineer/Medic Gilbert, Firefighter/Medic Holland, Firefighter/Medic Zorzi and Firefighter Hadden were awarded last month with the Lifesaving Award.

The honor, presented by the City of Myrtle Beach, awards employees when they do something that warrants saving someone's life, Chief Gwyer explained.

The four men were presented on August 18 after responding to a call.

A victim was unconscious when two of the firefighters began basic life support measures, Gwyer said. When the fire engine arrived, responders began advanced life support. By the time the ambulance reached the hospital, the patient was responsive, Gwyer said.

The award must meet specific criteria before it is earned.

"[The Lifesaving Award] is something they earn, they really work for it," Gwyer said.

In a rare occurrence, three Myrtle Beach Middle School employees were presented with the award earlier this year. The trio saved a teacher's life after going into cardiac arrest.
