Now that Labor Day is in the rearview mirror the number of tourists vacationing will begin to drop off. One thing these guests should have noticed this year was a nicer greeting along the roads heading to the beach.
The highways that serve as the welcome mat to the Grand Strand have been a very uninviting sight for years and years. This year Horry County stepped up and is adding new landscaping to the main roads. And not only did they improve the look of the medians, they also dedicated resources to clean up the trash, mow the grass and maintain the new plantings.
Not only is this a nice improvement for our guests, it is also a nice upgrade for all the locals who live here year around and creates a sense of pride in the area. With such a successful first year, hopefully the funding will be approved for next year. And with new funding one area where the program can improve is the addition of a street sweeping machine. The dirt, gravel and debris takes away from the improved look. But overall the area looks so much nicer. Job well done.
