CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - Former Conway pastor pleaded not guilty to a federal weapons charge during an arraignment.

On Thursday, August 28, Archie Larue Evans, 42, of Aynor, pleaded not guilty to the charge of felon in possession of a firearm. A gun was found in Evans' back pack during a security check in July, at a Florence federal courthouse before a sentencing hearing.

Earlier, Evans was convicted of mail fraud and structural financial transactions in a plan to defraud over a dozen people out of $2.5 million. That crime landed him seven years behind bars. A trial date for his gun charge has not been determined.

Evans is the former pastor of Tilly Swamp Baptist Church in Conway.
