Florence man arrested on animal cruelty charges

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - A man has been charged with animal cruelty after police found an emaciated dog at the man's house.

Frank H. McLeod V, 43, of Florence, is facing an ill treatment of animals charge, said Major Carlos Raines with the Florence Police Department.

Police found an emaciated dog suffering from wounds, several tumors and flea infestation at a house on July 22.

The Dog was between 14 – 16 years old, police said.

McLeod claimed he bathed the dog every other day.

Police say there were hundreds of fleas on the dog.

McLeod claimed he could not keep up with the dogs deteriorating condition.

The dog was taken to a vet, when police took it but it was in terrible shape.

The dog's health was so poor, the animal had to be euthanized.
