Police: Woman turns herself in to deputies after dog attacks child

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A woman has been arrested after her pitbull attacked a child and for abusing nine of her puppies, according to Major Carlos Raines with the Florence City Police Department.

A pitbull, belonging to Alexis James, 30, of Florence attacked a child, nicked the boy's legs and ripped his clothes off, according to Major Raines.

Officials also discovered that James had nine puppies that were without food and water.

James turned herself in to officials Wednesday morning.

She is charged with ill treatment of animals and owning a dangerous animal which attacks and injures a human.

Recruitment started in January and the district has already started making job offers. According to Bourcier, leaders are hoping to complete the hiring process over the summer.
