MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – Congressman Tom Rice was recognized by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Tuesday as one of its 2014 Spirit of Enterprise Award winners at an award ceremony at the BlueCross BlueShield facility in Surfside Beach.
Rice, who represents South Carolina's 7th Congressional District, is recognized for his support of pro-growth and pro-job policies during the first session of the 113th Congress.
"Since his time serving as chairman of the Horry County Council, one of Tom Rice's primary objectives has been job creation," said Brad Dean, president and CEO of the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce. "Tom's work with Myrtle Beach area economic development officials and local businesses has been instrumental in helping the Grand Strand secure hundreds of new jobs over the past few years. He's been supportive of job growth in not only the Myrtle Beach area and the 7th District as a whole, but across the entire nation."
Those who supported the chamber's position on at least 70 percent of those votes qualify for the award. Congressman Rice had a 85 percent rating with the chamber in 2013, according to the year's scorecard.
"My number one priority in Congress is, and always will be, jobs," said Rice. "I am honored to receive the Chamber of Commerce's Spirit of Enterprise Award, and look forward to advancing policies that grow our economy and create economic opportunities for South Carolinians and families nationwide."
