LAUREL, MD (WJLA/CNN) - At first people walked right past.
"The bag was just like sitting right there, but nobody paid it no mind," Kathy Wallace said.
When Shakia Gilchrist came home late Saturday, she noticed something that looked terribly wrong.
"It was right here behind a bush, and I said, 'Is that a mannequin?'" she said. "Yeah, I actually seen it before anybody seen it."
It was dark, and her son was asleep on her shoulder. It wasn't until Sunday that somebody called 911 to report two trash bags - one 100 yards away from the other.
"A detective came and talked to me, and he said, 'What you seen was real,'" Gilchrist said.
Police searched the rest of the neighborhood and eventually found more remains in a dumpster.
The body, they say, is of 28-year-old Jacinto Perez. a Guatemalan immigrant and day laborer who'd lived in an apartment one block over from where his body was found. Police believe he was murdered then dismembered. At this point, they have no idea why or by whom.
"It reminds me of a name I don't event want to mention - Jeffrey Dahmer," Josh Boothe said. "Somebody being killed, you hear about it a lot unfortunately, but to be dismembered was the part that really touched me."
"For me, it was a lot of anger or something," Wallace said. "To kill one person is different, but to take their body and cut it up like that, I mean that's frightening."
