HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – Parents, if you've tried to enroll your kids in a pre-school in Horry County to find they don't meet the qualifications, it can be frustrating.

The pre-school program, South Carolina First Steps, is now accepting applications from private non-district preschool providers. You can find more information about that here: http://scfirststeps.org/first-steps-4k-provider/

This is important because school districts like Horry County Schools have very strict qualifications children must meet to be eligible. Typically space is for children considered "at-risk" for factors that could lead to struggles in Kindergarten. Qualifications include the child receiving Medicaid, food stamps, scoring low or average on the developmental assessment rule out many middle-class children.

But now, places like The Learning Station in Conway are able to offer a pre-school program.  The child development center says on its Facebook page it is opening a third pre-k program this year.
