CONWAY, SC (WMBF) - More than 3,000 people attended Darius Rucker's concert Saturday night, and now the university is hoping to hold future events with nearly three times the amount of people.
It all comes down to when CCU is able to install artificial turf at Brooks Stadium. The original plan was to put in the turf this past year so concerts could be held outside in the much bigger venue.
The school ran into some obstacles and was not able to get the turf installed in time for this year's football season or the Darius Rucker concert. Because of the delay, the concert was held at the HTC center, which only seats about three thousand people.
Students tell us, Darius Rucker coming to campus is a big deal no matter what, but it was extremely hard to get tickets because of the small venue.
"The second I heard about it I was like 'oh man I've got to get on this,'" said CCU freshman Briar White. "Then I go and look for it online and it's sold out. I started talking to some friends that were going to come here, a couple sophomores, and they said they couldn't even get tickets either."
Rucker also picked several dozen students to be a part of the filming of what could be his next music video. He made the announcement on Twitter and had students gather near the track.
The filming eventually had to be moved inside the HTC Center because of the rain.
