GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Georgetown County is partnering with residents to complete two projects at Stables Park in Litchfield.

Currently, two shade centers are being installed at the Waccamaw Regional Tennis Center. On August 16, there was a fundraiser tournament that paid for the project. 40 people participated and the fundraiser raised about $1,400. Ernie Cribb, a retired builder, offered his carpentry abilities and was assisted by Patrick McCray. Pauley's Lumber also helped by providing materials.

In addition to new shade centers, there will also be a new playground at Stables Park. The Kiwanis Club of Pawleys Island plans to build the playground as a community service project. A groundbreaking ceremony will take place on September 30, at 11 a.m. on the site near the park entrance on Petigru Drive. The park is designed for preschool-age kids.

Kiwanis Club received a $12,000 grant from Kiwanis International Foundation. They managed to raise over $2,000 at the spring yard sale. Their goal is to raise a total $25,000. Georgetown County Parks and Recreation will provide the site and surface material and the club will buy playground equipment, benches and picnic tables.
