Suspect shot, killed during burglary in Darlington Co.

DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – A burglary in the Mechanicsville community of Darlington early Friday morning has left one suspect dead and victims injured, according to Darlington County Sheriff Wayne Byrd. A second suspect has been captured.

Marquis Benjamin, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting that occurred just after midnight, according to Darlington County Coroner Todd Hardee.

Brandon Jade Lunn, 25, has been charged with criminal conspiracy, first degree burglary, and three counts of assault and second degree battery. Lunn was denied bond Saturday, according to the Darlington County Sheriff's Office.

Officials with the Darlington County Sheriff's Office responded to a home on Zackview Drive. Upon arrival, the owner of the residence stated two males forced their way into his home, according to authorities.

A female victim and child was struck in the head and face with a gun.

The other suspect, armed with a gun, was holding another female victim at gun point, and struck her in the head with the gun.

Shots were exchanged between a male victim and Benjamin, when he was struck during the incident. The suspect shot and killed the family dog.

The investigation is still ongoing and additional charges are pending.

The incident remains under investigation by the Darlington County Sheriff's Office.
