Man arrested for underage sex solicitation

FLORENCE COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - Investigators with the Florence County Sheriff's Office said a sting put a man who thought he was meeting for sex, in jail.

Investigators said a Charleston man drove several hours to Florence County where he thought he would meet up with a teen, but when he arrived, someone else was waiting for him.

"What the suspect intended on being a sexual encounter with an underage teenager last week in Florence, actually turned out to be an encounter with undercover investigators," Major Michael Nunn Florence County Sheriff's Office said.

Ninteen-year-old Ian Willis is the man investigators say tried to meet an underage minor for sex last week in Florence County.

Investigators said Willis had been exchanging sexually explicit messages with the underage teen for quite some time and had even sent her pictures.

"The suspect allegedly texted photographs of his private parts," Nunn said.

Investigators said those messages showed Willis planned to meet up with the teen last week, but before that could take place a tip came into the sheriff's office and investigators sat up a sting operation.

"When investigators got involved they made arrangements for the encounter to take place and arrested the suspect," Nunn said.

The arrest is serving as a reminder to make sure you keep an eye on what your child is doing on the web and their smart phones.

"We urge all parents to monitor what the children have on their computers are personal data devices," Nunn said.

Willis was released from the Florence County Sheriff's Office on a $10,000 surety bond.
