What you need to know before your child returns to school

HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - For the upcoming school year, South Carolina schools will be implementing Common Core standards. The topic has drawn much controversy, so new standards will replace Common Core for the 2015-2016 school year.

Revised English Language Arts and math standards will be brought to the state board in January with final approval by March. The new standards will be implemented next year.

As the new school year draws near, students must be up-to-date on vaccinations.

From kindergartners to 12th-graders, vaccines must be taken in order to walk through school doors. The requirement isn't a rule for Horry County schools, it's a state law requirement.
