HORRY COUNTY, SC (WMBF) – On this week's Restaurant Scorecard, DHEC inspectors performed routine inspections on several establishments serving Asian cuisine, with mixed results.
China Buffet on 38th Avenue North in Myrtle Beach scored 86 out of 100 points, earning it a "B" rating from the Department of Health and Environmental Control. Inspectors noted in the report that there was mold in the ice machine, a can opener was dirty, there was no working thermometer on the cold holding unit, table shelving was broken, and the walk-in shelving, bulk containers, and side of equipment were dirty. Several other violations were corrected during the inspection.
Jade Garden on Highway 701 North in Loris received a score of 90, earning it an A grade from DHEC. A few violations that were not corrected during inspection included: plumbing not properly sealed at the wall, the faucet in the prep sink was in poor repair, and a light in the prep area was missing a cover.
Je Asian Fusion in Longs received an overall score of 96 from DHEC, and also earned an A. Inspectors noted in their report that shelves had a build-up of grime, the inside of the glass door fridge was dirty, the hand sink at the sushi bar was dirty, the floor at the sushi bar was in poor repair, and the walls and floor had some splatter. Other violations were corrected.
J & J Cafeteria on 4th Avenue in Conway scored 90 out of 100 with a few non-critical violations, many of which were corrected during the inspection. Among the violations that weren't immediately corrected: a thermometer was not provided at the prep cooler, there was a gap at the bottom of the back door, food containers had cracked lids, a gasket on the freezer door was torn, and an area was too dim to meet DHEC's lighting requirement.
Finally, Sea Crest on South Ocean Boulevard in Myrtle Beach got nearly a perfect score: 99 points. Both minor violations were corrected during inspection.
