MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - The body of a 41-year-old man was found in the lake at Broadway at the Beach Sunday evening, according to Myrtle Beach police.
Darrell Graham was identified as the victim by Horry County Deputy Coroner Tamara Willard. The preliminary cause of death was determined to be drowning.
Graham was reported missing by his wife after an argument between the two at Broadway at the Beach early Sunday morning. After the argument, Graham said he had to use the bathroom, and walked behind Ron Jon's Surf Shop, according to the police report.
The wife told police she then heard what sounded like a person jumping into the water, but thought Graham was "just messing around," according to the report. She said she called out several times, but did not hear an answer, and went behind the building to find Graham.
She called his cell phone several times, but there was no answer, the police report states. The officer who responded asked if the wife was able to use a cell phone tracking program to find Graham's phone. She tried, but the phone was offline.
Myrtle Beach firefighters responded and searched the area along with police, but were initially unable to find Graham, according to the report.
Captain Knipes confirmed that the body of the victim was located Sunday evening in the lake at Broadway at the Beach.
WMBF News found Graham was arrested and charged with criminal domestic violence last month after another argument with his wife. He was placed under arrest and sent to jail.
"Burroughs & Chapin Company, Inc. extends its deepest sympathy to the family of Darrell Graham. Our thoughts and prayers go out to them at this difficult time," commented Kei Gainer, Spokesperson for Burroughs & Chapin.
The incident remains under investigation by the Myrtle Beach Police Department.
