GEORGETOWN COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - A Hemingway woman has been arrested and is facing murder charges after, according to Georgetown County Sheriff's deputies, she murdered her husband Friday evening.

Sonia Gay Smith, 58, is currently behind bars at the Georgetown County Detention Center. According to deputies, Smith murdered her husband, Fermiond Smith, 60, at a home on 1572 Ray Road in Hemingway.

At approximately 9:30 p.m. Friday evening, Georgetown County Sheriff's Deputies were called out to the residence after Smith called 911, stating she just shot her husband.  When deputies arrived they reportedly found her husband lying on the floor unresponsive.  Deputies later found Smith, who was in the residence, and took her into custody. Information gathered from the investigation indicates the shooting was domestic-related, according to deputies.

Smith is currently at Georgetown County Detention Center waiting to be formally charged.
