MULLINS, SC (WMBF) – Firefighters responded to the scene of a commercial structure fire at the Arvin Meritor auto parts plant on Highway 76 in Mullins at about 9:45 a.m. Friday.

According to tweets from Mullins Fire Rescue, there are reports of smoke showing from a ventilation shaft. Mutual aid was requested from Marion City Fire and Marion Rural Fire. Crews inside the building say there was a fire isolated to a small area on the second floor, and it was knocked down by about 10 a.m.

The building's sprinkler system was activated, and all workers were evacuated, Mullins Fire officials stated. Tranquil Church Road was closed between Highway 76 and Senator Gasque Road due to the fire.

Mullins Fire Rescue later tweeted that cleaning chemicals were involved in the fire, but it was unclear to what extent. Three Arvin Meritor employees were being evaluated by EMS as a precautionary measure.
