Stillwater, MN (WMBF) - A Minnesota restaurant added something extra to its customers' dining experience, and it's leaving customers with mixed reviews.
It comes down to a recent minimum wage hike. Minnesota raised employee pay to $8 an hour, a 75 cent increase. But that's not what all the fuss is about.
Now, when a customer receives their check at Oasis Cafe, there is a 35 cent additional charge. Owners say they had no choice but to add this fee to cover the minimum wage hike. One customer vented his concerns on Facebook. He generally explained it is the cafe's way of blaming our government for trying to set a fair pay wage. The business responded to the customer by explaining it believes the fee is in the best interest of both the business and employees.
On the flip side, others didn't even notice the fee and when it was brought to their attention they didn't mind paying the few extra cents to help keep the local business up and running.
