FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - The South Carolina Supreme Court has decided it will not hear Florence County's argument against the creation of the West Florence Fire District.
Florence County Council petitioned the high court, stating it is illegal for West Florence to be its own district.
In April, council members voted to consolidate the seven districts into one.
In May, the West Florence special purpose district was created, which funds fire services for the West Florence area.
West Florence was, for a short time, a part of the Florence County Fire District, but that all changed after people living in West Florence pushed to become an independent district. They wanted the change because those people said they would be taxed unfairly in Florence County's district.
