(WMBF) - Facebook, known for its privacy issues, is at it again. Hundreds of millions have downloaded the new Facebook Messenger App to their phones, which works just like texting.

Now people who have added the app are starting to realize that part of the terms and conditions they agree to when they download it lets it take over devices – both smartphones and tablets. And the app doesn't even have to let you know it's doing it.

By downloading it, users give the app permission to call and text other numbers without getting consent. It can record audio with phone microphones at any time. And, once that app is downloaded, it has permission to go through phone contacts, look at and save call logs.

And it is allowed to take pictures and videos with the camera, at any time, without getting permission.

Some people say this is the last straw from Facebook. David Rainwater, who uses Facebook said, "That's not cool. Even the way they can turn on a mic and listen to me talk, I don't like that. I feel like Facebook's trying to sucker people into giving them information about their lives and not telling them that they're doing that."

On the other side, Facebook is promoting the app because it lets users send voice messages, make free voice calls and send video within the app. Users can also continue to call numbers even if they are overseas.

Users who haven't already downloaded the app on their mobile devices and tablets may start seeing a note from Facebook pop up when pulling messages saying users need to switch to the messenger app.

Rainwater says at the end of the day, even though it's extremely time consuming, in this case it is worth it to go through terms and conditions before agreeing to them, and that he will not be downloading the messenger app.
