SLED investigating over $11,000 taken from Darlington Economic Development fund

DARLINGTON COUNTY, SC (WMBF) - One person is accused of cashing a check for $11,646 from the City of Hartsville's General Fund.

According to the police report, the person was expected to deposit a check into an account that was made out to Darlington County Progress, Inc. but instead cashed the check and used the money for their own benefit.

The check was written on July 11, 2014 from the City of Hartsville General Fund and was cashed on July 18, 2014 at the Dedicated Community Bank in Darlington, according to the police report.

The State Law Enforcement Division is now investigating the case.

The Darlington County Economic Development Partnership was established to increase investment and jobs with new and existing industries within the county. The Partnership works with state and federal agencies to determine needs for the county, such as land or building requirements through available grants and financial assistance.
