CONWAY, SC (WMBF) – Coastal Carolina University has been named one of the most eco-friendly affordable colleges in the country.

The website BestChoiceSchools.com lists CCU 35th on the list, recognizing the campus' eco-friendly endeavors. The website notes the school's Eco-Rep program, the Student Green Team, and the Students for Environmental Action student club.

The website also mentions that CCU was the first university in the state to offer a fleet or Zip Cars, a self-service, on-demand car sharing program. The school also offers an organized bike share, a free campus shuttle, and subsidized transit passes.

CCU announced this week that they will be launching "Teal Transportation" in the fall semester, a service which joins all of CCU's alternative transportation methods together.

North Carolina State University in Raleigh was ranked 14 on the eco-friendly list, and Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina came in at number 9. According to the list, the most eco-friendly affordable university is Berea College in Berea, Kentucky.
