Florence leaders set to spend $5M on new Emergency Management center

FLORENCE, SC (WMBF) - Florence County leaders awarded a North Carolina architecture firm to design the new Florence Emergency Management Center.

The architecture firm of Stewart Cooper Newell will be working in conjunction with Collins and Almers, according to Florence Emergency Management Director, Dusty Owens.

The firm is headquartered in Charlotte, while Collins and Almers is headquartered in Florence.

The project is expected to cost nearly $5 million.

Concepts and ideas have been discussed, but county leaders have not yet sat down with the company to work on plans.

In the next six months, the design, redesign and estimation of cost will be focused upon.

Construction is set to take place shortly after.

The building is hoped to be fully operational in the next two years, Owens said.
