MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WMBF) - Myrtle Beach Recreation will be hosting its 6th Annual Kids Triathlon on Saturday, August 16 at Pepper Geddings Recreation Center.
More than 130 boys and girls, ages 7-18, are registered to compete in the race in age-appropriate distances by swimming laps in the Recreation Center pool, biking a road course, and running to the finish line, all while parents and fans are cheering them on.
Swimming, biking, and running are things kids like to do naturally. With a little fun and competition, each year kids and parents alike experience a thrilling and energetic race as participants go for it and do something they will never forget.
Medals are awarded to all participants as well as a race shirt, swim cap, and race bag.
The triathlon was founded in 2009 to promote physical activity among kids and to highlight the healthy recreational benefits of swimming, biking, and running.
A Triathlon Camp is conducted the week prior to the race to improve swimming strokes, biking skills, and running form as well as prepare participants for what to expect on race day.
To participate in this year's Kids Triathlon Camp and Race or just the Race on Saturday you may contact Pepper Geddings Recreation Center at 918-2280. Deadline for race registration is Tuesday August 12 at 5 p.m.
